Dryness while breastfeeding, a feeling of looseness, and leaking on a cough after a vaginal birth are the changes FemiLift is used for after a birth, which Alma's 2016 release calls post-delivery rehabilitation. We offer FemiLift for them from a few months after a birth, once you have healed, with the evidence given as it is. Every treatment is given by Dr Marie Duggan, GMC 7488383, at Femilift Clinic London, 130 Harley Street, London, W1G 7JU, after a free consultation and examination.
What the studies found
One uncontrolled series of 30 breastfeeding women, on another maker's laser, found the Vaginal Health Index rose from a median of 14 to 18 after the first session, and dryness and pain during sex eased after two to three sessions. There was no comparison group, and there is no randomised trial of the laser after childbirth. The laxity studies have no sham group, and the stress incontinence trials are split; the laxity page and the stress incontinence page set them out.
What the regulators say
In July 2018 the FDA said: "The safety and effectiveness of energy-based devices for treatment of these conditions has not been established." The FemiLift laser is FDA-cleared in the US as a surgical laser, not for these conditions. NICE's guidance on the laser for stress incontinence says it "should only be used in the context of research" and that "continuation of pelvic floor exercises is important".
How we plan it
In our practice Dr Marie Duggan examines you, with a smear test first, confirms that a few months have passed since the birth, and refers you where a prolapse or a tear needs a diagnosis first. Pelvic floor training is the first-line treatment NICE names for stress incontinence, and in our practice it continues whatever you decide about the laser; the laser or physiotherapy page sets the two side by side. The course is two or three sessions initially in Alma's words, typically three at four to six weeks apart in NICE's, with the plan set at the consultation, and the full guide covers the rest. The price is in writing at a free consultation, with a price match on any comparable written quote.
