Vulvar lichen sclerosus is the itching, burning, pale and fragile skin of the vulva that is usually treated with a strong steroid cream. It is a use Alma names for FemiLift, and the one with two randomised trials of the fractional CO2 laser against the cream. Every treatment is given by Dr Marie Duggan, GMC 7488383, at Femilift Clinic London, 130 Harley Street, London, W1G 7JU, after a free consultation and examination.
What the trials found
- 52 women, 2021, laser against clobetasol: the quality-of-life score was better with the laser by 10.9 points at six months, and 89% against 62% rated their symptoms "better or much better".
- 245 women, 2026, an open-label randomised trial against the same cream: a greater fall in a burning, itching and pain score at three months with the laser.
- The 2021 trial used another maker's laser and the 2026 trial does not name its device, so we present them as trials of fractional CO2 laser for the condition rather than of FemiLift itself.
How we plan it
Lichen sclerosus needs a diagnosis first, and in our practice the steroid cream and the laser are discussed side by side. In our practice Dr Marie Duggan examines you, with a smear test first, gives you the trial results above and discusses the steroid cream alongside, and anyone whose condition needs a specialist diagnosis is referred for it first. In both trials the laser was given to the affected vulval skin, and in our practice the course is set at the consultation. The menopause page covers the related tissue changes, the pain and sex page the recovery, and the full guide the rest. The price is in writing at a free consultation, with a price match on any comparable written quote.
