FEMILIFT

FemiLift for recurrent cystitis in London

Urinary infections that keep coming back after the menopause, when the thinning of the vaginal lining lets the wrong bacteria settle near the bladder outlet, are a use we offer FemiLift for after a diagnosis. We give the evidence as it is: no Alma page names cystitis, and the two published studies, from 2025 and 2026, used other lasers, and we say so plainly. Every treatment is given by Dr Marie Duggan, GMC 7488383, at Femilift Clinic London, 130 Harley Street, London, W1G 7JU, after a free consultation and examination.

What the studies found

A 2025 trial of 80 postmenopausal women found an erbium laser no worse than vaginal oestrogen at preventing urinary infections. A 2026 series of 75 women, most after the menopause, reported fewer cystitis episodes after a dual-wavelength CO2 laser. Neither used FemiLift or had a sham group, so we quote no figure for FemiLift. In the erbium trial the vaginal pH stayed lower and the healthy lactobacilli held better with the laser than with oestrogen; the menopause page sets out the menopause trials.

What the regulators say

In July 2018 the FDA said: "The safety and effectiveness of energy-based devices for treatment of these conditions has not been established." The FemiLift laser is FDA-cleared in the US as a surgical laser, not for these conditions. NICE's guideline on recurrent urinary infection, NG112, says to consider vaginal oestrogen around or after the menopause when hygiene and behaviour changes are not enough, before preventive antibiotics, and we discuss it first.

How we plan it

In our practice Dr Marie Duggan examines you, with a smear test and a urine test first, so that the infections are confirmed and any cause that needs a specialist is referred. She discusses vaginal oestrogen, which NICE advises considering, before any laser. The laser is planned beside it, in a course of two or three sessions initially in Alma's words, typically three at four to six weeks apart in NICE's, with the plan set at the consultation. The recurrent infections page covers vaginal infections, and the full guide the rest. The price is in writing at a free consultation, with a price match on any comparable written quote.
